PSST…HEY
I know it’s just past 1 AM here. But can’t sleep. Go figure. Haven’t actually tumbled on here apart from some links, photos and vids, so I think I’m due for some word vomit. =p
Can’t give you the whole gist of “the plan” so to speak, but I now have a pretty solid deadline for myself. Turns out our lease is coming to an end in December. After that my brother plans to move in with some of his friends for the remainder of his time at Ex’pression (he’s graduating next April). I can’t technically go back home; I would love to, and make it easy for myself, but there’s no way I’d be able to with Squit. Fam’s allergic to cats and such, and I would feel terrible with myself if I left her in the garage at night. There’s also giving her to my brother for the temp, but four months only isn’t really worth it and after he walks, he’s probably gunna go back home. So that point is moot. And I’d rather not have to think about giving her up. We can make this work dammit! >:O
I’ve already re-written up some resumes for part time retail purposes. I spent all of the week hitting up Emeryville, Berkeley, and El Cerrito looking for places that were hiring. And to my luck, Rasputin in Berkeley is hiring as is GameStop in Emeryville. Amoeba told me they weren’t hiring at the moment, but that it wouldn’t hurt to apply anyway. Rasputin’s dealing of it is sans application; apparently I just have to swing by and drop a resume. I know a couple of the dudes working at the GameStop here in E-Ville, so that should help. And as I said, this isn’t gunna be anything permanent; I figured I should work until this thing in December goes down. By then I’d have SOME money saved up. And no, I haven’t resorted to JUST retail.
It’s been established that I won’t be leaving CA. Sadly I know, contrary to a few posts back. It’s amazing what a little “talk” and a trip back to down the earth (THE URFFF) will do to you. Makes you open your eyes and see life as well as people for what they really are. Anywho, too much of a gamble, not enough profit if I use up time and resources (*cough* money *cough*) to relocate to an entire new state. So for now, it seems as if I will either move somewhere else in the Bay or to SoCal. There is one tiny glimmer of a shot of me leaving CA relatively unscathed and that’s if I find a game company that provides some sort of relocation assistance. And on that note, I do plan to fly to Austin for GDC this coming October. Sorta have to; it’s a way to get some feedback for new material I have and another crack at the career pavilion. And who knows what’ll happen there, so I won’t jinx it.
And in the meantime, more working on “reel” material; artwork and such. I’m still debating on whether or not I should audit some classes, but seeing as how I’m apparently more into the fine art side of things and my school doesn’t offer much in terms of fine art, I think it’s best if I just do it on my own time. Today I found some of my old writings from years gone by; it’s pretty crazy to know that I wrote some of that stuff (some of it was even me attempting at rapping :O I know right?), so I’ll be getting more into that along with the artwork.
As for backup plans, I’m starting to really like the idea of voice acting. I’ve done some stuff for friends in the past, and I personally found it to be fun. Just gotta do some more research into it; from the interviews I’ve seen on YouTube, most voice actors have some sort of performing arts background. Figured I should probably look into that and give it a shot and take the stage mayhaps. Muahahhaha. Hey, I’m into pro-wrestling; can’t be that much different…or difficult? O.O I dunno, these are all just things I’ve been researching for the past couple of weeks.
I’d really like to work for either Rasputin or Amoeba over GameStop. I know, I know. But I love being in those kind of shops man. I’m a huge supporter of independent record stores and I think I would feel at home being surrounded by music and being able to most likely discover new music on the job appeals to me. Crossing my fingers on this hahahaha.
And so, in closing, I’m probably going to end up a wage slave for the rest of the year and mayhaps a bit into 2011. Depends on what happens and what develops over the course of the second half of this year. Le *shrug*. Not that I mind. I haven’t been able to do anything really since I graduated. I get to do something productive on a semi-daily basis AND get monies for it. And that cabin fever is gaining the upper hand yet again dude. I shan’t allow him to win!
Music…games…music…games. Hmm. Gaming’s in the summer drought as usual, but if I get the chance to blare Steel Panther whilst I work security, then dammit, yes please.
